The Oak Room

Theatre

Winner of the 2013 Toronto Fringe New Play Contest!

Inspired by the playwright’s own experience of being stranded in a snow-covered small town, The Oak Room is a distinctly Canadian thriller: a sort of “Northern Gothic” tale, streaked with dark humour, cryptic plotting, and shocking violence. Written for a cast of five men and set in a single room, this play examines notions of memory, masculinity, and the power of storytelling.

Written by Peter Genoway
Directed by Amos Crawley
Starring: Daniel Roberts, Nigel Hamer, Ari Millen, Carlos González-Vio, Sandy Crawley

“It’s easy to see why Peter Genoway’s script won the 2013 Toronto Fringe New Play Contest. Its explosion of machismo and hostility channels the best of Mamet.” - The Torontoist

“A shrewdly crafted black comedy/thriller... one clever piece of playwriting” - The Grid

“Creepy... Eerie... Genuinely suspenseful” - Mooney on Theatre

“A highly mysterious story... a thoughtful production.” - Theatre Isn’t Dead
